Inspiration for our Campers

Please bring necessary comforts such as light sleeping bags, pillows, lamps, flashlights, glowsticks, water bottle, bug spray, earplugs in case of cicadas, sleeping pad or tarp in case its wet.

We are planning on setting up an outdoor shower for our rugged travelers to alleviate strain on the septic.

Rufflands, Red Hook, NY

This is Rufflands, the site for the wedding. It is 200+ acres of rolling hills for camping and hiking. We will have the property from Thursday the 27th through Sunday the 30th. Thursday will be just for family, wedding party, and those who are helping with the planning etc, so by Friday morning anyone can come up and get the festivities under way.

On the map (double-click), Rufflands Farm is just above the label for Milan ("my-lin").

Transportation

By Train:

We will have a shuttle to pick people up at the local train depot (Rhinecliff), which is 15 minutes from the farm. The ceremony location is in Red Hook, NY (not Brooklyn).

New York City to Rhinecliff (Rhinebeck / Red Hook / Kingston / Dutchess County)

Amtrak - $27 - $46 One Way

From JFK:

1. From JFK take the AirTrain monorail to Jamaica.

2. At Jamaica Station connect to the LIRR (Long Island Railroad) for the fastest ride to Manhattan. It is about $10 more than the subway but much faster and nicer. If you know the subway, take it. A to the F.

3. From Penn Station take Amtrak to Rhinecliff.

From LaGuardia:

1. This is the only airport not served by subways.

2. Take the Q33 bus to Jackson Heights/Roosevelt Ave subway station. Take the E to Penn Station.

From Newark:

1. Take the AirTrain to the Newark Airport Station.

2. Take New Jersey Transit train to Penn Station.

Taxis from the airport to Manhattan should be a flat rate of $48. Bus, subway, and train will cost between $10 -$20. All take approximately one hour.

By Car:

Rentals are by far the cheapest at the airport. If you have a Zipcar membership, this would be a good option. We can help arrange van rentals if people want to carpool up. We already have plans to rent a passenger van to shuttle people to and from the train stations. The ceremony location is about an hour and a half north of Manhattan and is a beautiful drive along the Hudson River. Please bring cash in case of tolls.

Hudson Valley Accommodations

--- We were just informed by the home owner that they need to limit overnight house guests so their septic tank doesn't overflow. So we will have to max out overnight guests at 40 for all three properties. --- 3/14/13

For those who wish only to stay in the Hudson Valley, we have limited space for guests to stay at the Manor House and a neighboring property. Wedding party and family first of course as well as those that have spent time and money traveling long distances, but there should be enough space to accommodate up to 40 people, some private some communal. Mind you some of this "dorm" space will be filled with mattresses and sleeping bags for the low maintenance among us. We also encourage camping on the 200+ acres.

There are many Bed and Breakfasts as well as hotels in the Dutchess County area as well.
